I just love traveling....the best part is still making a reservation with Hertz and waiting with anticipation to see what kind of vehicle they give us. I swear there is no rhyme or reason to any of it! It used to be that no matter what I put in for a car request, we ended up with a Ford Taurus. I hate those cars so I finally put in a request excluding Ford Taurus. Nooooo they didn't give us Mercury Sables instead but I was afraid of that too. Anyway, with Greg's GOLD status, he was always upgraded a level so I always put in for a compact car anyway....the one time I asked for an intermediate in an attempt to prevent the Taurus, we got some yacht...a Caprice I think it was. whoooaaa big boy. All Greg needed to drive that thing was a white belt and matching shoes!
Sooo I realized yesterday morning that I was just giddy with anticipation while on the rental car bus....I just couldn't wait to see what we got. ( sort of like a birthday present) Last time was the SUV..yeah we need that in DC. I also thought we'd be getting to the point where there would be no surprise..sort of back to the Taurus thing again. Well I was wrong...
Before I tell you what we got....I should explain the process. I reserve online ( of course, since you know I dont' make phone calls). The deal is, we have a profile and we put in the dates and times and other pertinent information and basically we ask for "their best rates" on anything. A menu comes up with a choice at the top which is what I usually take but I can look at other choices. This time it popped up with: $34.99/day..Standard Car (rate class) a Ford Mustang or Similar. Not only is that nearly half what we usually have to spend but it's two classes up from the compact rate so I said to myself...woo woo...we'll take it and maybe they wil upgrade to a convertible! It happens. Of course it usually happens in the dead of winter or rainy season but it has happened in good weather too....once. Anyway, Greg was walking around it this morning shaking his head in wonderment. Do you think there is a red flag on our account? Do you think they will ever get around to giving us the Jaguar? I would think they would since rumor has it that the "new" Jaguars have Taurus innards..........;-D

Oh ok...so maybe it doesn't have the flames and it's just Navy Blue but it's still not your basic Mama's rental car!
I can't wait til next time! You'll recognize us...we'll be the ones with the weird rental car!
Posted by frani at April 15, 2003 09:38 AMSince you rent cars so often from Hertz, is there any sugestions you may have to improve the process? Or any additional items/services they could offer that you would be inclined to pay for? Any travel tips? Sorry I don't give out my e-mail address
Posted by: Henry at April 15, 2003 10:47 AMNext time ask for the one with flames.
Posted by: Morgan at April 15, 2003 12:01 PMUm...Henry, As long as I can make, modify and cancel reservations online and have a car waiting for us with minimal BS, I'm a happy woman. So far Hertz does this for us ... in spite of the occasional SUV or Mini-van.
Morgan...hehehe you KNOW if they had one with flames we'd be all over that PT Cruiser...;-D What was that other one we had in AZ that had people "admiring" it...oh yeah...the school bus yellow Protege mini-wagon. NICE.....
Posted by: frani at April 15, 2003 03:47 PMummm Henry...do you work for Hertz? or National..Budget..Avis..Enterprise...Dollar?
Posted by: frani at April 15, 2003 03:49 PMI Love your car....you did need the SUV the last time you were here......
Posted by: Risa at April 15, 2003 10:33 PMGood Guess Ma,
Looks like you have someone honestly trying to gather feedback. I wonder how he found your post so fast. Looks like Henry found your blog after reading KnitWitology a week ago (current logs only go back to beginning of the month).
Anyway, Good for you, Henry, its nice to seen people taking an interest in what drives (pun intended) their clients (customers sounds so impersonal).. Hopefully Mom will give you more feedback, keep checking back... You've stumbled into a very interesting family. Welcome to the show.

Hey Fran,
why not ask for a porsche? Maybe you'll get that jaguar yet. Nice ride. If I ever rent a car, I'm asking for a porsche. Do you think they will rent that to me?
Posted by: DA at April 15, 2003 11:07 PMOK, I'll admit the attention from Hertz is making me a little anxious about my (non)anonymity... We switched to Hertz about 4 years ago when National couldn't deal with a continuing pattern of overbilling. We've been happy with Hertz and clearly are willing to pay to the reduced nonsense.
Henry, I applaud to attention to what is being said about your company on the internet, but please don't feel the neccessity to punish me for the rantings of my gossipy mate.
Posted by: TheGuyWithTheGoldCard at April 16, 2003 06:28 AMGreat, my cover is blown. I do indeed work for Hertz, and as a company we pride ourselves on great customer service. I do want to hear what customers want and would like to see at our locations. Any ideas would be greatly appriciated. As for the Jaguar......good luck!
Posted by: Henry at April 16, 2003 08:33 AMAnd what is wrong with a PT Cruiser? I wish I had flames on mine.
Posted by: Rog at April 16, 2003 09:52 AMHenry...see next entry for feedback...hehehe, you asked.
Rog...I like your PT Cruiser...and this one is fine too...it's just not exactly low profile, ya know?
Posted by: frani at April 16, 2003 10:47 AMoh and DA...if you want a Porche and they have one to rent, I'm sure they would rent it to you. Hehehe...it does come equipped with a gas pedal though,...you do know that don't you, Dru Ann?? Snort.
