So we get all these coupons from Hertz for free rental days and such and I rarely use them. However, since we are in New London with only one car and I want to go visit some friends, I decided what better way to do this than to use the freebie rental ones. You realize they aren't really free, don't you? Excludes tax, so it's really $14 for two days; still not bad. So I make a reservation to pick up the car at the New London Amtrak since that is where it says I can in New London. Well sort of. The reservation woman reads me a script where it says that I have to call the local Groton Hertz office ( near the groton airport - not the big leagues) and arrange to have the car available to me at the train station or pick it up in Groton by taking a cab for which I will be reimbursed. I also had to do this with appropriate amount of time to accomplish this task. I called the Groton Hertz immediately after making the reservation...I was told they don't deliever cars to the train station..that I would have to take a cab from there and they would reimburse my fare. Now I was arriving on the Amtrak, correct? No I say, I was not..just wanted to rent a car in New London. Well then...that is only a service for Amtrak. Now I didn't ask if they would reimburse my cab fare but it certainly sounded as if I didn't arrive Amtrak, they wouldn't reimburse my fare. It was only 9 miles from here anyway so we drove over this morning to pick it up .... but still it was not a pleasant experience when I was expecting to pick it up 3 miles away at the train station. At least *I* was able to use the free day rental coupons and rent the car in my name instead of " the gold card man's name" This was a plus...however, I had to use my Credit Card and not the business one since it isn't in MY name. Woe is me...it isn't always easy being me AND it isn't always easy using freebie coupons either.
Isn't there a lesson in here...nothing's free?
